Women sports in Czech Television's Branky, body, vteřiny

The bachelor thesis Women sports in Czech Television's Branky, body, vteřiny deals with representation of women sports in the main sports news programme of the Czech Television, Branky, body, vteřiny in years 2010 and 2019. On several chosen broadcasts, it investigates the amount of representation of women sports (in comparison to men sports) and its differences between years 2010 and 2019. The thesis is divided into two parts. The theoretical part, with the help of existing scientific literature, examines the topic of gender inequality and its relation to the area of sports. Furthermore, through specific examples it describes the situation of women sports in the world and the Czech Republic from the view of active sportswomen and women functionaries. Special attention is paid to the relationship between women sports and media. In the chapter Ženský sport a média, we reflect existing knowledge through scientific papers and various media research. Also introduced is the core of our analysis, the programme Branky, body, vteřiny. The analytical part, by the means of quantitative content analysis, deals with the amount of coverage of women sports and its comparison with the coverage of men sports. Reporting Ice-Hockey: Women's and Men's Perspective

The thesis called Reporting Ice-hockey: Women's and Men's Perspective focuses on possible differences in works of female and male sports journalists. In the theoretical part, the issue of gender in sports journalism, basic stereotypes associated with the work of female sports journalists and the characteristics of the female writing style are introduced. In the practical part, reports of specific Czech journalists about ice-hockey are analysed. The analysis includes audio-visual reports from Branky, body, vteřiny; Hokej den poté, and written reports from Mladá fronta Dnes and online news server iDNES.cz. The emphasis is put on, for example, the frequency of statistical data, the description of the atmosphere and emotions, the originality of expressions or the use of sports journalism jargon and clichés. The aim of the qualitative content analysis is to prove whether and how the reports of selected female and male sports journalists differ.
Gold lady Ester Ledecká, comparation of sport news in Branky, body, vteřiny and Sportovní noviny at the Winter Olympic Games 2018

The topic of this thesis is a comparison of the portrayal of the double gold medalist, Ester Ledecka, by the media Branky, body, vteřiny (Goals, points, seconds) and Sportovní noviny (Sports news) during the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games. The selected programmes are flagship relays of the channels Česká televize and TV Nova, respectively. This thesis analyzes reportages concerning Ester Ledecka in the period one week before, during, and one week after the Games, i.e. from 3 February 2018 until 3 March 2018. The paper has two main parts: theoretical and practical. The first section deals with both public and private media outlets, presents the historical context of the founding of the sports edition of the then Czechoslovak Television, and discusses the theoretical concepts commonly used for the study of media content. Qualitative and quantitative analyses of the selected reportages then constitute the second part of this paper. The total amount of reportages on Ester Ledecka and their average footage are derived by quantitative analysis. What follows is a research establishing which pieces are sports-related and which cover different aspects of the athlete's life. The tranformation of the visual style of Czech televison form 1992 to the presence

This diploma thesis investigates the transformation of the visual style of chosen news and journalistic programmes, chosen news programmes are Události (main news programme), Branky, body, vteřiny (sports news) and Předpověď počasí (weather forecast), chosen journalistic programmes are 168 hodin, Reportéři ČT, Objektiv and Toulavá kamera. In its theoretical part the thesis is focused on history of Czechoslovakian and Czech television. Furthermore there is a description of visual communication and visual style with detailed focus on typography and colourfulness. Next the theoretical part focuses on the characteristics of logo and its important attributes. Another chapter depicts a visual style of a television channel in the sight of selfpromotion, on air and off air applications and the graphics of a television, its current trends, effects, typography and current approaches. The last chapter of the theoretical part focuses on description of chosen programmes. In the frame of empirical part the picture analysis appended with semiotic analysis of chosen programmes and logo of Czech television were conducted. The author of diploma theses The development of the form of sports news from the beginning of the broadcasting of Czechoslovak Television to the present describes changes in sports news in Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic from 1953 to 2016 focusing on its form. The aim of this work is to write down how the form of popular news which has a longer history than common news has developed based on archive shots of Czechoslovak and Czech Television. The thesis deals with sports news in Czech countries since its inception. Then, it explains the creation of the sports department in Czechoslovak television and describes changes that have taken place during its whole life, especially changes associated with the emergence of the independent Czech Republic and creation of the sports channel ČT Sport. Separately, the author also focuses on the main sports session Branky, body, vteřiny. In the second half of the thesis, the author defines several categories that cover sports news from different points of views. These categories are divided according to the historical milestones which are important for particular category. The history of the sport department of czech television 1993-2015

This diploma thesis Historie Redakce sportu České televize v letech 1993-2015 describes the sports broadcasting in the Czech Republic (and Czechoslovakia) from 1989 to 2015. The author explains the most important milestones in the history of Sports Department of Czech Television. The description goes from the constitution of the department over the circumstances connected with the inception of the channel ČT sport, the changes in the organization, personal composition and editorial leadership up to the current form of the department. The thesis also contains the development of sports news, live broadcasts, television technology, Olympic Games, football and ice hockey broadcasts and the importance of the Internet utilization for sports department (abbr SD). The essential parts of this thesis are more than 30 interviews with editors of SD involving their own opinions, authentic experiences and stories. The thesis also reminds some of the long forgotten facts and answers many questions regarding sports broadcasting in the past, present and future including the outlook towards the year 2024. Analysis of sound, visual and content components in sport broadcasting (on example of sport coverages Branky, body, vteřiny on Czech TV and Sportovní noviny on TV Nova)

In the beginning of the theoretical part this diploma thesis deals with the history of television broadcasting with emphasis on sport content. It continues with analysis of sport news programs Branky, body, vteřiny and Sportovní noviny and deals with their history and progress. In the theoretical part there are also presented visual and sound elements of TV broadcasting (such as shot composition, axis rule, sound, rush etc.). There is also introduced complete process of making television sport story from redactor's point of view. Practical part of the thesis contains, due to the periodic recording of the two sport programs, the presentation of current structure and shape of shows Branky, body, vteřiny and Sportovní noviny. Both programs are processed from the technical point of view (working with cameras in the studio and outside of the studio, working with sound track, expression and pronunciation of anchormen and redactors etc.) as well as from the content point of view, where there is showed three-week analysis of each broadcast day. The analysis is trying to show technical differences between the shows, as well as to present what is their overall structure and also which sports they present the most.
